Every year from April 13th to 15th, Thailand’s residents fill the streets armed with super soakers and buckets to celebrate the Thai New Year (known locally as Songkran Festival) ! Traditionally a cleansing and preparation ritual in anticipation of the coming year, this festival has become an absolute must-see item for travellers across the globe. This trip will allow you to experience Songkran like never before, in both Northern and Central Thailand! We’ll start our Songkran shenanigans in Chiang Mai and take in all of the magic of Thailand’s North before journeying back down to Kanchanaburi to welcome the New Year once again! After all this mayhem we’ll take to the water - sleeping beside one of Thailand’s most famous waterfalls and relaxing on serene lakes to end off your trip right. Group introduction in the morning followed by a tour of Bangkok’s most famous temples! Indulge in delicious Thai cuisine and later enjoy one night in wild Bangkok!
Check out of the hotel (we will have a room to store your bags) and spend the afternoon exploring Bangkok! Go shopping, get a Thai massage, enjoy the hustle and bustle! We will meet back at the hotel in the evening to leave for the train station where we will be boarding an overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai.
Arrive in Chiang Mai at 8:00am and take a red truck transfer to the hotel. We’ll grab breakfast together and introduce you to the charming city that is Chiang Mai! Departure from hotel at 11:00 am to enjoy an afternoon giving back to Thailand’s Elephants in an ethical sanctuary setting. For dinner we’ll venture to the Night Bazaar and explore the night markets.
Today is the day! Songkran Festival begins today and will continue in Chiang Mai until the 15th. We’ll meet up for breakfast and to fill our water guns before heading out to the streets for an unforgettable day of celebrating the Thai New Year!
Songkran Festival continues today! Spend the day taking in all of the New Years magic and exploring Chiang Mai with that water gun!
Depart after breakfast for a Mountaintop Temple Tour and viewpoint of the city of Chiang Mai. The rest of the day will be free so that you’re able to fit in your most desired Chiang Mai activities before leaving. Go to the highest peak in Thailand, try bungee jumping, or head out into the jungle for a jungle trek!
Check out of the hotel in the morning (again, there will be a room/space to store your bags), and spend the afternoon exploring the last bits and pieces of Chiang Mai. Meet back at the hotel at 5:00pm to depart to the bus station where we will take an overnight bus to Kanchanaburi.
Arrive in the early morning and take truck transfer to the hotel to check in. Today is the first day of Songkran Festival in Kanchanaburi! We will participate in a traditional Thai New Years ceremony before taking to the streets to get wild again for a new kind of Songkran experience!
In the morning we’ll explore the town and surrounding area of Kanchanaburi, and have time in the afternoon for whatever Kanchan activities you’d like to check out! Go fishing, hit the waterpark, or lay by the pool!
Check out in the morning and drive 1.5 hours to the National Park. Get settled at the campground by the river and enjoy a lazy afternoon on the water. We’ll enjoy a BBQ dinner before spending the night under the stars.
Wake up and begin the Erawan Waterfall hike early to beat the crowds! After an amazing 7 layer waterfall adventure, we’ll drive a couple of hours to the lake house where we’ll spend another evening by the water and have a traditional family style Thai dinner.
Get in your last few lake laps before checking out and beginning the 4 hour journey back to Bangkok. Final group dinner and night out on the town!
All accommodations are included on your Stray Away trip, from the first to the last day of this adventure and vary from guest houses to floating bungalows
All transportation between destinations and activities is included in your adventure, including one overnight train and one overnight bus.
